Performing salat [prayers] is a religious obligation that is explicitly defined in the Qur'an

Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Interview on A9 TV dated November 29th, 2011

ADNAN OKTAR:  Performing salat [prayers] is an explicit command in the Qur'an. Apart from this, look;  Allah deems performing prayers a religious obligation and He also explains what would happen if one quits performing prayers. Note that salat as a religious observance is confirmed [by that]. Allah has declared salat explicitly as a religious observation to be performed 5 times [a day] in the Qur'an. It is also clearly defined in the hadiths as well. But in the verses Almighty Allah says; ".. they will ask the evildoers: What caused you to enter Saqar?" What is the first response they give? "They will say.. " May Allah forbid "..We were not among those who did salat." Look this is the first, the very first item. Under these circumstances everyone would understand that salat can never be quitted. That is very clear. Allah deems it a religious obligation and also defines what would happen to those who do otherwise. Of course.. But that is not the same with the headscarf. With the headscarf; Allah states it as an obligation but does not explain what would happen if one would not observe that. Yet we understand the importance of performing salat from this. There is no other explanation to it. Salat should definitely be performed [by everyone].
