The Extraordinary Features of the Atom

The Extraordinary Features of the Atom

The atom consists of a nucleus, containing neutrons and protons, and electrons revolving around it.
The smallest components of the atom are two types of quarks, and the electrons. All the matter in the universe, all odors, all tastes, all colors, hardness, softness and everything else is created out of these three tiny components.
Electrons are extraordinarily minute compared to the nucleus. An electron is just one 2000th of the protons that make up the nucleus.
If we put a dot on a piece of paper and take this as the nucleus of the atom, the electron revolving around it would be 50 meters away.
If we think of the nucleus as an apple, the electron orbiting it would be 50 kilometers away. It would be impossible for a human being standing there to see the electron.
No blow, impact or explosion that could take place in this world can displace either the atom, the nucleus or the electrons. Even when a living thing made up of atoms dies, the atoms that constitute it will keep on turning.
The atoms that constitute a burning tree do not burn up and cease to exist with it; they continue revolving in the air and combine with different atoms to produce new substances.
The nucleus inside the atom is constantly revolving. Electrons revolve both around the nucleus, and around their own axes. The quarks inside the nucleus also revolve endlessly in the same way. Each one revolves at a specific speed. They never make a mistake and never impair the order set out for them. The electron revolves both around its own axis and around the nucleus at an extraordinary speed ranging from 2000 to 100,000 kilometers per  second.
Not a single electron has ever collided with another electron throughout the 15 billion years since they were first created. No such collision could  ever happen.
Electrons revolve around the nucleus in seven different orbits, and the number of electrons circling the nucleus may sometimes exceed 100.
Electrons jump into one another’s orbits and change places at a very high rate of speed. But despite their stupendous speeds and movements they still never collide with one another.
Electron exchanges between two atoms takes place with a very low energy. This is a great blessing to us in terms of the continuation of life, as this is one of the reasons behind the existence of everything, from the cells in our bodies to the objects we use, from the stars in the skies to the Earth itself.
In a single moment, there is as much electrical transmission in our brains as the number of stars in an average-size galaxy. This electrical transmission is made possible by electrons.
Electrons also revolve around their own axes. This is known as “spin”. Were it not for that, all electrons would combine in a single orbit, no electron exchange would ever take place, and matter could never form.
While we think we are sitting quietly at home, the Earth is revolving around its own axis at 500 meters per second. And we are revolving with it. The Earth revolves around the Sun at 30 kilometers per second. And we again revolve with it. The Solar System revolves within the Milky Way at a speed of 250 kilometers per second. And we revolve with it. And every one of the atoms in our bodies, all around us and where we live also constantly revolve. Everything, from giant galaxies down to the tiniest quark, is under the knowledge and control of Almighty Allah, Creator and Lord of all the worlds.

Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. He knows what you are engaged upon. On the Day when they are returned to Him, He will inform them of what they did. Allah has knowledge of all things. (Surat an-Nur, 64)

PERISHED NATIONS II

THE PEOPLE OF SABA AND THE ARIM FLOOD

Saba, built in southern Arabia in the 11th century BC, was a great civilization.

The Qur’an relates the story of the Queen of Saba and the Prophet Sulayman in considerable detail.

However, there is another story in the Qur’an regarding this people, who appear before us in a violent act of destruction.

The oldest texts to refer to the People of Saba are the annual war chronicles from the time of the Assyrian King Sargon II. According to these inscriptions, Sargon mentions Saba as one of the states that pays tribute to him. This record is the oldest text giving firm information about the state of Saba.

Ancient texts that speak of the people of Saba say that like the Phoenicians they were a state that engaged in wide commercial activities, and that some of the most important trade routes in northern Arabia were in their hands.

The Sabaeans were known in history as a civilized people. The inscriptions of the Sabaean rulers frequently speak of “restoring,” “endowing,” and “building.”

The Ma’rib Dam, the ruins of which have survived down to the present day, is a major indication of Sabaean technology. Thanks to that dam, a bright green world was built in the middle of the desert.

The capital, that benefited from the dam, was Ma’rib, which had grown wealthy because of its many geographical advantages.

The capital stood close by the Adhanah River. The Sabaeans made use of this and built a dam here as they were constructing their civilization and began irrigating the area. Agriculture prospered, and they were thus able to enjoy high levels of well-being.

The capital Ma’rib was one of the most beautiful cities of the time. The Greek writer Pliny who travelled in the area and had great praise for this land, spoke in his works of the way it was all so verdant.

The dam at Ma’rib was 16 metres high, 60 metres wide and 620 metres long. Calculations have shown that two wide plains on both sides of the city could be watered by means of it.

These two plains are sometimes described on Sabaean inscriptions as “Marib and the twin plains.” The expression “two gardens to the right and to the left” in the Qur’an in all probability refers to the impressive vineyards and gardens in these two valleys. Thanks to the dam and its watering facilities, the region became famous as the best irrigated and most fertile in Yemen.

When we examine the verses in the Qur’an in the light of these historical facts we can see enormous compatibility between them. Archaeological discoveries and historical facts are totally compatible with what is written in the Qur’an. The people refused to heed the warnings of the prophet who was sent to them and were ungrateful for the blessings of God, and were eventually punished with a terrible catastrophe.

There was also a sign for Saba in their dwelling place: two gardens—one to the right and one to the left. “Eat of your Lord’s provision and give thanks to Him: a bountiful land and a forgiving Lord.” But they turned away so We unleashed against them the flood from the great dam and exchanged their two gardens for two others containing bitter-tasting plants and tamarisk and a few lote trees. That is how We repaid them for their ingratitude. Are any but the ungrateful repaid like this? (Qur’an, 34: 15-17)

The People of Saba lived in a strikingly beautiful area with fertile vineyards and gardens.

The country of Saba lay across trade routes and thus enjoyed a high level of prosperity, making it one of the most prominent cities of the age.

What the people of Saba needed to do under such agreeable conditions was to “eat of the sustenance provided by their Lord and be grateful to Him”. Yet they did not do so. As a verse puts it, “they turned away from God…”

Their arrogance in their well-being caused them to lose it. The whole country was flattened in a terrible flood.

The vineyards and gardens of the people of Saba were suddenly left under the waters.

The punishment visited on the people of Saba is described in the Qur’an as “Seyl al-Arim,” or the Arim Flood. This term in the Qur’an also tell us the way this disaster occurred. The word “Arim” means “dam” or “dike.” “Seyl al-Arim” describes the way a flood occurs after a dike has been breached.

The Christian archaeologist Werner Keller agrees that the Arim flood came about in line with the description of the Qur’an, and writes:

For 1,500 years this garden of spices bloomed around Marib. That was until 542 B.C.—then the dam burst. The importunate desert crept over the fertile lands and destroyed them. “The people of Sheba”, says the Koran, “had beautiful gardens in which the most costly fruits ripened.” But then the people turned their backs upon God, wherefore he punished them by causing the dam to burst. Thereafter nothing but bitter fruit grew in the gardens of Sheba. (Werner Keller, The Bible as History, William Morrow and Company, Inc., New York, 1981, p. 216)

The dam, that may be considered the most important source of the People of Saba’s wealth and well-being, was also the means of that ungrateful people’s destruction.

After the disaster of the Arim flood, the area turned into a desert, and as the agricultural fields disappeared the People of Saba lost their most important source of revenue.

The People of Saba, who ignored God’s call to believe in Him and give thanks, were thus chastised.

Following the terrible damage wreaked by the flood, the people of Saba began to fall apart. They abandoned their homes and migrated to Northern Arabia, Mecca and Syria.

Ma’rib, where the People of Saba had once dwelt, was now a desolate ruin, and is most definitely a warning to everyone who commits the same mistakes as the People of Saba.

THE PHARAOH BURIED UNDER THE WATERS

One of the most ancient civilizations in the world is that of Egypt. Their discovery of writing around the 3rd millennium BC, the use they made of the River Nile and the way they defended themselves from attack all played a major role in allowing that civilization to advance.

Ancient Egypt rested on one of the world’s great natural wonders: The River Nile.

Thanks to the fertility of this river, which stretches from one end of the continent of Africa to the other, the Egyptians were able to engage in agriculture without having to depend on the rainy seasons. The historian Ernst Gombrich makes the following comments on the subject:

Africa is hot. It does not rain for months. Many parts of the continent are therefore arid. Those regions are covered in desert. That is the case to the right and left of Egypt. It rains very infrequently in Egypt. But there is not that much need for rain, because the River Nile flows right through the middle of the country.

Given its enormous strategic importance, he who controlled the Nile also controlled Egypt’s most important source of trade and agriculture, in other words its very life. Ancient Egyptian rulers built a mighty kingdom by that means. They would later come to be known as “pharaohs.”

The Ancient Egyptians possessed a deviant belief in a great many gods. They were fiercely devoted to that belief because of their terrible bigotry.

The people of Ancient Egypt were greatly influenced by their natural environment. The country’s physical geography protected it very well from external threats. Egypt was surrounded by deserts, mountainous lands and seas on all sides. There were two routes for an attacker to enter the country, and it was a simple task for the Egyptian Army to defend them.

The Egyptians remained isolated from the external world thanks to these natural factors. Over the centuries, that separation turned into harsh bigotry. Closed to new developments and reform, they clung fiercely to their beliefs.

Life after death formed the most important component of Egyptian belief. It was believed that the soul survived after the death of the body and that the soul of the deceased was held to account. Scales were brought and witnesses summoned, and the good and bad deeds of the deceased were discussed. Then the judge/god reached his verdict. Those whose good deeds weighed heaviest in the scales would lead a life of endless joy, and those whose evil deeds weighed heaviest would suffer eternal torment.

It is impossible not to see that the Egyptians’ belief in the afterlife shows parallels with monotheistic belief and the true religion. This shows that Ancient Egyptian civilization had once been part of the true religion and its revelation. That religion was later corrupted, however, and belief in one god turned into belief in many.

We know that from time to time messengers were sent to warn people of the oneness of God and to serve Him. One of these was the Prophet Yusuf, whose life is set out in the Qur’an in some detail. The Prophet Yusuf migrated to Egypt with the People of Israel and settled there. After his death there began a period of enslavement of the Children of Israel. That age would end with the sending of the Prophet Musa as an ambassador and his leading the Children of Israel out of Egypt.

The pharaohs of Egypt were cruel, oppressive, warlike and ruthless. One thing they had in common was that they all regarded themselves as great beings within the twisted Egyptian polytheistic system, and could shed blood without a moment’s remorse.

However, one pharaoh in Egyptian history was different to the others. That pharaoh maintained that there was but one Creator. For that reason alone, he was subjected to terrible pressure by the Priests of Amon, and eventually killed. That pharaoh was Amenhotep IV, who rose to power at the beginning of the 14th century BC.

When Amenhotep assumed the throne in 1375 BC, he encountered a conservativism that had grown over the centuries, and was subjected to great strife. The reason for that pressure was that he changed the polytheistic Egyptian religion, installing a belief in one god in its place, and embarked on wide-ranging changes in all areas. However, the leaders in the capital, Thebes, fought Amenhotep. Those who supported him left the city and migrated to another region. Here, Amenhotep changed his name to Ahk-en-aton, which meant the “servant of Aton.” Aton, according to Amenhotep, was “the creator of the heavens and the earth,” which indicates that he believed in God alone.

Other cruel pharaohs ascended the throne after Amenhotep. They set about spreading their traditional polytheistic religion once again, and did all in their power to return to the past. A century or so later, Rameses II came to the throne, who would enjoy the longest reign in the history of Egypt. According to a great many historians, it was Rameses who oppressed the Children of Israel and struggled against the Prophet Musa.

The Ancient Egyptians refused to give up their pagan beliefs because of their blind fanaticism. Messengers had come to warn them to believe in one god, but the people of Pharaoh had always returned to their old beliefs. Eventually, God sent the Prophet Musa as His messenger, at a time when the Children of Israel had been enslaved. The Prophet Musa was charged with both calling the Egyptians to the true religion and with guiding them to the true path by freeing them from slavery.

We recite to you with truth some news of Musa and Pharaoh for people who believe. Pharaoh exalted himself arrogantly in the land and divided its people into camps, oppressing one group of them by slaughtering their sons and letting their women live. He was one of the corrupters. We desired to show kindness to those who were oppressed in the land and to make them leaders and make them inheritors and establish them firmly in the land and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their troops the very thing that they were fearing from them. (Qur’an, 28: 3-6)

In obedience to God’s commandment, The Prophet Musa and his brother Harun went to Pharaoh and told him of God’s commands. What they wanted was for Pharaoh to cease oppressing the Children of Israel and set them free.

On the other hand, the religion proclaimed by the Prophet Musa was undermining Pharaoh’s power, and portraying him as a being on the same level as everyone else. Furthermore, if he freed the Children of Israel he would lose some important manpower.

For all these reasons then, Pharaoh refused to listen to what the Prophet Musa told him. He accused the prophet and his brother Harun of trying to disturb the established order and portrayed them as criminals.

Leading members of the people of Pharaoh also refused to obey the Prophet Musa and Harun. They refused to abide by the religion that had been revealed to them. They had no intention of abandoning the religion of their ancestors.

At that point, God visited a number of disasters on their heads.

Pharaoh and those close to him were so fanatically devoted to their polytheistic system and pagan beliefs, in other words “the religion of their ancestors,” that they were totally unwilling to give it up. Not even the miracles performed by the Prophet Musa could turn them from their superstitions. They openly stated the fact. According to Sura 7, verse 132:

They said, “No matter what kind of Sign you bring us to bewitch us, we will not believe in you.”

In the face of that obstinacy, God visited a number of disasters on them so they could have a taste of suffering while still in this world. The first of these was drought and scarcity of crops.

We seized Pharaoh’s people with years of drought and scarcity of fruits so that hopefully they would pay heed. (Qur’an, 7: 130)

The Egyptians had based their agricultural system on the Nile, for which reason changes in natural conditions did not affect them. However the arrogance of Pharaoh and his close circles towards God and their refusal to recognize His prophet led to a totally unexpected disaster being inflicted on them. In all probability, water levels in the River Nile dropped enormously for various reasons, and the irrigation canals from the river were unable to carry enough water to the fields. Extreme heat led to crops drying up. In this way, Pharaoh and his prominent followers encountered a disaster stemming from a most unexpected source—the River Nile itself. Sura 43, verse 51 reveals how this catastrophe dismayed Pharaoh who previously used to call to his people saying, “My people, does the kingdom of Egypt not belong to me? Do not all these rivers flow under my control? Do you not then see?”

Yet that was not the end of their problems. In fact, it was only the beginning. A whole string of other disasters followed the drought and the failure of the crops. These consisted, as the Qur’an tells us, of floods, locusts, lice, frogs and blood.

Despite all these things that had happened to them, Pharaoh and his people still refused to take the advice given to them and turn to God. In other words, they remained fixed in their arrogance.

Yet that would not last long!…

Since Pharaoh still refused to accept the might of God, despite everything that had happened, God told the Prophet Musa to lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt. They obeyed the Prophet Musa and set out with him to leave Egypt. But Pharaoh could not accept their departure without his permission. He therefore gathered his army together and set out to follow the Children of Israel.

Pharaoh and his army caught up with the Children of Israel just as they reached the sea. When the Children of Israel saw this, some of them began to rise up against the Prophet Musa. According to the Old Testament, they said, “why did you take us away from our homeland, there we were slaves but we could lead our lives, now we will die.” The Qur’an describes that weakness of theirs in these words:

And when the two hosts came into sight of one another Musa’s companions said, “We will surely be overtaken!” (Qur’an, 26: 61)

According to Sura 26, verse 62, the Prophet Musa reassured those people who were afraid they would be recaptured, saying,

Never! My Lord is with me and He will guide me.

At that point God again showed his support for the Prophet Musa. What happened next is described in the Qur’an:

So We revealed to Musa, “Strike the sea with your staff.” And it split in two, each part like a towering cliff. And We brought the others right up to it. We rescued Musa and all those who were with him. Then We drowned the rest. There is certainly a Sign in that yet most of them do not believe. Truly your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. (Qur’an, 26: 63-68)

As Pharaoh and his men began to enter the sea, God miraculously closed the waters over their heads. The Qur’an states that as Pharaoh realized that he was about to die he stated that he believed in God:

…When he was on the point of drowning, he [Pharaoh] said, “I believe that there is no god but Him in whom the tribe of Israel believe. I am one of the Muslims.” (Qur’an, 10: 90)

Yet Pharaoh and his army were not saved from drowning. This fact is reported in the verses thus:

What, now! When previously you rebelled and were one of the corrupters? Today we will preserve your body so you can be a Sign for people who come after you. Surely many people are heedless of Our Signs. (Qur’an, 10: 91-92)

So God exacted retribution from them and drowned them in the sea, because they rejected His signs and failed to take warning from them.

Following Pharaoh’s violent death, the people of Israel set out for the land promised them by God:

And We bequeathed to the people who had been oppressed the easternmost part of the land We had blessed, and its westernmost part as well. The most excellent Word of your Lord was fulfilled for the tribe of Israel on account of their steadfastness… (Qur’an, 7: 137)

As we have seen, historical and archaeological discoveries regarding the peoples mentioned in the Qur’an reveal once more that the Qur’an is the word of God. People must learn from what befell these peoples and look for means to draw closer to God. Only in that way can they hope to be successful in the hereafter.

PERISHED NATIONS

Has the news of those who came before them not reached them the people of Nuh and ‘Ad and Thamud, and the people of Ibrahim and the inhabitants of Madyan and the overturned cities? Their Messengers brought them the Clear Signs. God did not wrong them; rather they wronged themselves. (Qur’an, 9: 70)

Machu Picchu, Peru, 1470 AD
What you are seeing are the imposing remains of some old civilisations.
Throughout world history, a great many very different civilisations have grown up, ruled for a while, and then faded away when their time came.
The level of craftsmanship reached by some of them is enough to amaze us even today.
Yet these civilisations, which may have approached and perhaps even surpassed today’s levels of mathematical, astronomical, medical and architectural knowledge, no longer exist.
The knowledge they had, the unbelievable riches they acquired, their magnificent palaces and temples now stand empty and in ruins.
Despite all their power and wealth, they disappeared off the face of the earth.
We now know that some of them were destroyed as the result of terrible disasters.
In this film, we shall be examining just what happened to them.
We shall also see how these destructive events were actually divine retribution, news of which is given in the Qur’an.
We shall see that the peoples in question were destroyed because of their rebellion against God and their excesses.
And archaeological discoveries provide the evidence for this.

THE PEOPLE OF LUT

The people of Lut denied the warnings. We unleashed a sudden squall of stones  against all of them... (Qur'an, 54: 33-34)
The land of Anatolia, the plains of Mesopotamia, the Arabian Peninsula and the continent of Africa have witnessed the births of different civilisations since the beginning of time.
God sent messengers to them throughout history, and called them to His path.
Those peoples who refused to believe the messengers sent to them, who tried to kill or exile them, were all destroyed …
One of these civilisations was found within the borders of the present day state of Israel. This people, who settled by the shores of the Dead Sea, were the people of Lut.
According to the Qur’an, homosexuality was so rife among these people, to whom the Prophet Lut had been sent, that its like had never been seen before.
When their brother Lut said to them, “Will you not do your duty? I am a faithful Messenger to you. So heed God and obey me. I do not ask you for any wage for it. My wage is the responsibility of no one but the Lord of all the worlds. Of all beings, do you lie with males, leaving the wives God has created for you? You are a people who have overstepped the limits.” (Qur’an, 26: 161-166)
When Lut told them to renounce their perversions and brought them God’s commands, they denied him, rejected that he was a prophet and continued with their perverted ways.
In return for that behaviour, they were destroyed in a terrible catastrophe.
Let us now have a look at the archaeological evidence that has recently been unearthed regarding this people that are discussed in the Qur’an.
When we look at the Old Testament, the holy book of both Christians and Jews, we see that the matter is described in the same terms as in the Qur’an.
According to the Old Testament, the city where this deviant people lived was Sodom.
Archaeological discoveries from excavations reveal that the city was built near the Dead Sea, which runs along the Israeli-Jordanian border.
Archaeologists working in the area unearthed evidence of a terrible disaster here. The terrible damage to the human skeletons unearthed bore the signs of a powerful earthquake.
According to the Qur’an, angels came to Lut and gave him this warning the night before the disaster:
They said, “Lut, we are messengers from your Lord. They will not be able to get at you. Set out with your family—except for your wife—in the middle of the night and none of you should look back. What strikes them will strike her as well. Their promised appointment is the morning. Is the morning not close at hand?”
When Our command came, We turned their cities upside down and rained down on them stones of hard baked clay;
Piled on top of one another in layers, each one earmarked by your Lord. And they are never far from the wrongdoers. (Qur’an, 11: 81-83)
The expression “turning their cities upside down” in all probability refers to the region being shattered in a powerful earthquake.
According to a news story carried by the BBC under the title “Scientists Uncover Sodom’s Fiery End” the British geologist Graham Harris was one of the scientists to discover powerful evidence on this subject.
According to Dr. Harris, Sodom had been built on the shores of the Dead Sea and traded in the asphalt found in the region. This tarry substance was used in ancient times to waterproof boats and to hold stones together in buildings.
Yet this settlement area, right by the Dead Sea, also stood on very unstable land. This was the point where two tectonic plates, moving in opposite directions, met:
This was an earthquake zone!
The layers of lava and basalt unearthed during the excavations are the strongest proof that there had been a volcanic eruption and earthquake here.
The event described in the Qur’an in the words “rained down on them stones of hard baked clay” was in all probability a volcanic eruption. The event described in the same verse in the words “When Our command came, We turned their cities upside down” may well refer to the ruptures and destruction caused by an earthquake.
Under the Dead Sea shores lie large deposits of flammable methane pockets. The earthquake would have set these in motion and ignited them.
The ground would have turned into a quicksand, and a massive landslide would have swept the city into the water.
A series of scientific experiments at Cambridge University confirmed this theory. Scientists built a replica of the region in which the People of Lut had settled in the laboratory, and induced an artificial earthquake. As had been expected, the earth was inundated and the miniature houses slid into it and were buried there.
These archaeological and experimental discoveries reveal one important fact: The People of Lut discussed in the Qur’an really lived in the past, and were punished for their perversions by a disaster sent by God. All the evidence for that disaster has today been revealed, and is in complete agreement with the account given in the Qur’an. Once again, the fact is revealed that the Qur’an is the word of God.
So the Great Blast seized hold of them at the break of day.
We turned the place completely upside down and rained down on them stones of hard-baked clay.
There are certainly Signs in that for the discerning. (Qur’an, 15: 73-75)

THE END OF POMPEII

Mount Vesuvius is a symbol of Italy, and especially of the city of Naples.
The volcano is also known as “The Mountain of Misfortune.”
There is a good reason for this. A city built on its slopes experienced a similar catastrophe to that which hit the city of Sodom.
The name of the city, destroyed on account of its rebellion against God and its perversions, was Pompeii.
These pictures portray what was once the busiest street in Pompeii.
The city was a holiday destination of the high society of the Roman Empire and a symbol of wealth. The architecture of the houses was breathtaking.
The people of Pompeii were very wealthy.
Yet instead of giving thanks to God for that wealth, they turned into a nation of deviants and gave themselves over to debauchery, and the city became a den of iniquity.
Pompeii was best-known for two things.
One was the gladiatorial combats organized in the huge arena solely for the amusement of the rich. That savage spectacle had only one rule: To fight to the death …
The second largest arena in the Empire, after the Coliseum in Rome, was that of Pompeii.
In the early years of Christianity, that arena witnessed the deaths of countless numbers of people, solely because of their belief in God.
This unbelievable savagery came to be the greatest form of entertainment for the people of Pompeii, whose consciences had withered and died.
The second main feature of Pompeii was that it was the scene of the most ruthless implementation of the system of slavery, which prevailed throughout the Roman Empire.
For a slave to disobey an order there could be only one end …
They were treated as worthless objects, bought for money.
Yet the real oppression of the slaves by the nobles of Pompeii was something different: They were forced into prostitution! The perverted homosexual relations between themselves among the nobles ended in the rape of slaves no older than children …
In short, their wealth had made the people of Pompeii degenerate, and led them into a morass of perversion and deviancy.
They had no idea what was about to happen …
The disaster was so terrible that this huge marble bathtub from one of the baths smashed into the opposite wall with unbelievable force, leaving a huge, deep scar.
In an instant, the lava from Vesuvius wiped Pompeii off the face of the earth.
That disaster remained concealed under the ground for the next 2,000 years …
In the first quarter of the 20th century, archaeologists began to unearth the remains from under tons of volcanic rock. What they encountered was a piece of history 2,000 years old, totally unspoiled.
The disaster had struck the people of Pompeii so suddenly that everything stayed just as it had been 2,000 years ago. As if time had stood still.
Despite the terrible eruption of Vesuvius, nobody fled, but just turned into stone where they stood.
The faces, and even the teeth of some of these bodies remained completely intact. The thing they almost all had in common was their expressions of surprise and terror …
A family eating together were petrified at that exact moment. Even the food on the table has been preserved.
The most extraordinary side of the tragedy is this: How was it that thousands of people waited for death to come and claim them, seeing and hearing nothing?
That dimension of the catastrophe shows that the destruction of Pompeii closely resembles the incidents of destruction recounted in the Qur’an. When such incidents are described in the Qur’an, it is revealed how people were always struck down in an instant, where they stood:
It was but one Great Blast and they were extinct. (Qur’an, 36: 29)
We sent a single Blast against them and they were just like a thatcher’s reeds. (Qur’an, 54: 31)

THE PEOPLE OF AD

‘Ad were destroyed by a savage howling wind. God subjected them to it for seven whole nights and eight whole days without a break. You could see the people flattened in their homes just like the hollow stumps of uprooted palms. Do you see any remnant of them left? (Qur’an, 69: 6-8)
The history of the Arabian peninsula goes back a very long way. Countless legends of the desert-dwelling Bedouins have come down from the past to the present day …
One of these legends speaks of a city built among the empty dunes of the desert. Despite the lethal land around it, the city was rich and fertile. The people of the city enjoyed great well-being.
However, according to the story, the people of the city committed a great sin, and suffered a great punishment for it. A horrible sandstorm annihilated them as if they had never existed.
Archaeological research in Oman, in the south of the Arabian peninsula, has revealed that this tale is true, not a myth at all, and that the people mentioned in the early sources are the People of ‘Ad mentioned in the Qur’an.
It was the amateur archaeologist Nicholas Clapp who discovered this lost city. An Arabophile and a winning documentary film maker, Clapp had encountered a very interesting book during his studies into Arab history.
This book was called Arabia Felix, written by the British researcher Bertram Thomas in 1932.
Arabia Felix was the name given by the Romans to the southern part of the Arabian peninsula, and meant “Fortunate Arabia.”
The reason for this was that the inhabitants of that region in ancient times used to be known as the most fortunate people of the age. But why was that?
The people of the region produced and sold frankincense (fræŋkınsεns), an aromatic resin from rare trees. Frankincense was of great value in ancient societies, and was used as a fumigant in various religious ceremonies. That aromatic resin was as valuable as gold at the time.
In his book, the British researcher Thomas claimed that he had discovered the traces of one of the “fortunate” peoples in question. This was the city known to the Bedouins as “Ubar.” On one of his trips to the region, the Bedouins had shown him an ancient track, saying that it led to a very ancient city known as Ubar. Thomas was greatly interested in this matter, but died before he could complete his research.
Nicholas Clapp studied Thomas’ writings, and came to believe in the existence of the lost city mentioned in the book. Wasting no time, he embarked on his own research.
Clapp asked NASA to scan the region by satellite. In the pictures taken from space appeared the traces of a number of tracks, invisible to the naked eye from the ground. Clapp then compared these pictures to old maps, and came up with the result he had been expecting. The tracks in the old maps were the same as those in the pictures taken from space. Where these tracks joined was a wide area that was realised to have been an ancient settlement.
The time had come for Nicholas Clapp to set off on his travels …
It was a long journey, and one full of adventure… As it made its way through the endless dunes, the research team from time to time made use of the latest technology.
Yet there were also times in that wild place where technology was of no use.
Eventually, Clapp and his team arrived at the historic remains they hoped would be those of the city of Ubar.
From the moment the ruins were discovered, it was realised that they belonged to the People of ‘Ad mentioned in the Qur’an and the city of Iram that they had built. Clapp also made use of the Qur’an during his investigations.
In the Qur’an, the city of Iram was described as possessing tall pillars. Yet the Arabic word used for “pillar” also means “tower.” In other words, the feature of the city described in the Qur’an was that it possessed tall towers.
The traces of these tall towers duly emerged during the excavations. Thanks to the use of three-dimensional graphic technology, scientists were able to reconstruct them. Dr. Zarins, a member of the research team that carried out the excavations, stated that it was these towers that distinguished this city from other archaeological discoveries, and confirmed that the site was the city of Iram which had belonged to the People of ‘Ad mentioned in the Qur’an.
Do you not see what your Lord did with ‘Ad, of the city of Iram with lofty pillars, whose like was not created in any land. (Qur’an, 89: 6-8)
‘Ad denied the truth. How terrible were My punishment and warnings! We unleashed a howling wind against them on a day of unremitting horror. It plucked up men like uprooted stumps. (Qur’an, 54: 18-20)
The people of ‘Ad, whose traces the archaeologists discovered in the city of Ubar, had denied the Prophet Hud who had been sent to them, at which they were destroyed by God.
When they saw it as a storm cloud advancing on their valleys they said, “This is a storm cloud which will give us rain.”        No, rather it is what you desired to hasten—a wind containing painful punishment. (Qur'an, 46: 24)
It is revealed in the verse how the people saw a cloud that would bring them great suffering, yet that they failed to understand its significance, believing it to be a rain cloud. This is an important indication of the nature of the suffering that was about to be unleashed on them: Desert storms…
The whirlwinds that proceed along by raising up the desert sands resemble a rain cloud from a distance. It is possible that the People of ‘Ad were deceived by this and failed to realise the danger.
In fact, Ubar, “The Atlantis of the Sands,” was unearthed from beneath a layer of sand several metres thick.
As revealed in the Qur’an, the storm lasted “seven nights and eight days,” depositing tons of sand on the city and burying its population alive.
The most important evidence that the People of ‘Ad had been buried in a desert storm is the word “Ahqaf” used in the Qur’an to define the place of the People of ‘Ad.
Remember the brother of ‘Ad when he warned his people by the sand-dunes—and warners passed away before and after him—“Worship no one but God. I fear for you the punishment of a terrible Day.” (Qur’an, 46: 21)
“Ahqaf” in Arabic means “sand dunes.”
This shows that the people of ‘Ad lived in a region full of sand dunes, so it is quite natural that the city should have been buried in a sand storm.
The disaster that struck the people of ‘Ad in the form of a storm that “flattened people just like the hollow stumps of uprooted palms” must have destroyed the whole population within a very short time.
The whole city and everything in it was buried alive under the sand. The desert slowly spread after the destruction of the People of ‘Ad, leaving no trace of them behind as it settled over them.
In brief, historical and archaeological discoveries prove the existence of the People of ‘Ad and of the city of Iram with lofty pillars, as mentioned in the Qur’an, and that they were destroyed in just the same way that the Qur’an relates. Research has unearthed traces of that people from beneath the desert sands.
In the Qur’an, God reveals that the People of ‘Ad turned away from the straight path out of arrogance.
The peoples we have been examining all committed similar mistakes: They all rebelled against God. They adopted other gods than Him. They grew arrogant in the earth without any right. And turned to sexual deviancy and perversion. And God destroyed them.
A great many societies that have lived throughout the course of history have been destroyed for similar reasons, not just the few examples we have seen here. God tells us of this fact in the Qur’an, and asks us to think hard about them. Our task is to learn from the destruction of these peoples and to take warning from them. One verse from the Qur’an says:
“‘Ad were arrogant in the land, without any right, saying, ‘Who has greater strength than us?’” Did they not see that God, who created them, had greater strength than them? But they renounced Our Signs. (Qur’an, 41: 15)
We must not forget that God can destroy an individual or a whole people whenever He wishes. He can also honour those whom He wishes and confer blessings upon them. All good and beautiful things are in the hands of God. Man’s duty is to constantly thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed and to seek His good pleasure. God issues the following call to man in another verse of the Qur’an:
Whole societies have passed away before your time, so travel about the earth and see the final fate of the deniers. This is a clear explanation for all mankind, and guidance and admonition for those who do their duty. (Qur'an, 3: 137-138)

The Miracle in the Auditory System

SPEAKER:
Let’s imagine that you were asked to build a machine that can detect and process sound waves.
To do this, you would need many different electronic parts and components. And in order for that machine to work, you would need to do the right things, at the right time, in the right order.
First of all, you would have to choose the right components, and put them together in the right order. You would also have to be careful about the connections between the parts. Any small mistake in the selection of the parts, assembly plan or the connections in between, could cause the failure of the entire system. You would need the necessary know-how and experience to build such an electronic device and make it work.
While these are the facts, if someone came up to you and said that such a device could still come into being without anyone making a plan of it and then building it accordingly, and offered theories to supposedly prove that illogical notion, what would you think of that person?
Of course, you would know that he wasn’t a person to be taken seriously. But, still, let’s test that claim with the following scenario:
Let’s assume that all the necessary components of this audio device have been correctly selected and placed side to side on a shelf. And let’s say there is a box on the shelf that contains the tools to be used for the assembly process. You would still be sure that this audio device could never come into being by chance, not even in a hundred or a thousand years. It doesn’t matter if it is hit by lightning or if each part is electrified; the result will still be the same. This device could never come into being by itself; only a specialist in electronic devices could build it.
However, some people really are claiming that a mechanism far superior to that audio device, in other words, our sense of hearing, came into being by chance. It is obvious that such a claim is sheer nonsense. Our ears are incomparably superior to the audio devices that perceive sound waves. The structure in our ear is the amazing work of Omnipotent Allah.
The movie you are about to watch will show the excellent structure of our ears, demonstrating the perfect creation of Allah.

THE WORLD OF SOUNDS

Sound is one of the most important elements in our lives, something that adds to the meanings of our lives. Think for a moment: what would it be like to live in a world with no sound?
Try to imagine such a world: there would be no sound or noise in that world.
We would never know about a danger approaching from behind. We would be oblivious to our surroundings, we would know no such thing as music. We would be unable to communicate with our loved ones, or express our emotions and tell others about what we know, without great difficulty.
The inner ear, the core of our sense of hearing, and the hearing center in our brains, occupy a place smaller than one cubic centimeter (cm3), or a sugar cube. Our ears are like a miniature engineering miracle with very complicated mechanical, hydraulic and electronic structures.
You already know that the technology we see around us is the product of complex plans and projects. Every new building, every new machine, reflects new and improved information, stemming from years of know-how and experience. However, the formation of the ear is much more than mere engineering know-how.
It is amazing, the way that random vibrations in the air are used for one of our senses. This is a unique structure. There is only one explanation for the auditory system: this engineering wonder is the result of a ‘unique creation’. This superior creation is the work of Allah, Who created the heavens, the earth and everything in between.
It is He Who has created hearing, sight and hearts for you. What little thanks you show!
 (Surat al-Muminun, 78)

the hearIng center

We are now going to look into the elements of our auditory system. The sound waves entering our ears are collected in the area represented by the letter A, pass through B and trigger the mechanical system between C and E. After E, the mechanical energy reaches the purple area and causes the liquid contained in it to move. The result is an electrical impulse.
These signals are transmitted through the red tapes at the very right, to a computer. The sounds are processed in this computer, and this process results in hearing. This computer is actually the hearing center in our brain.
The hearing center in the brain is the part that interprets the signals coming from the inner ear and makes ‘hearing’ possible. Most interestingly, this place where all sounds are processed is actually very quiet. The hearing center in our brain is still a source of mystery, but does a most miraculous job. The information related to hearing is transmitted to this hearing center through the acoustic nerve, 2.5 cm long.
The hearing center
When the brain receives a signal, it compares it to some 400,000 different sounds we have heard before in our lives, thus preparing the body for its next reaction. If the brain didn’t do that, we would be unable to hear a car coming from behind and jump out of the way in time.
Another quality of the hearing center is its capability to filter sounds. When we are in an enclosed place, we still can hear everything perfectly despite the different sounds coming from different parts of the room, such as the radio or TV. We would not normally be able to do that, because the sound waves strike the objects in this and this should create an echo. In other words, we would normally hear not only the original sound, but its echo, as well.
On top of that, there is another point that would normally increase the echo effect: our own heads. Because sound waves strike our heads first, and then reach the hearing center; and this should increase the echo effect. But that never happens, because all echoes other than the sounds we are supposed to perceive, are eliminated in the brain stem.
Eric Young, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Hearing Sciences, explains:
Eric Young
Johns Hopkins Center for Hearing Sciences
Director
Our cells in the brainstem are ready to locate the sound. This way, they analyse hundreds of sounds with different tones and characters. The sounds are differentiated with no special effort. For example you can tell a bagpipe from footsteps. Auditory signals also get sharper, because the clever brain stem deletes a clutter of echoes, so they never reach awareness. As your friend's voice and piano playing bounce off the walls, fireplace, and ceiling, a processing center picks out the echoes as duplicates because they arrive a tad later. It deletes all but the original signal--a neat trick, given the complexity of the sound.
(Johns Hopkins Magazine - September 1996, Issue)
Then, how come we hear some echoes and not others, despite this amazing selective quality of the brainstem? Surely, if the distance involved is very large, for example if we are in a valley or in an empty room, high volumes will create echoes. Because they reach us seconds later than the original sound.
In this case, they are not eliminated by our brains and are perceived as a different sound. But in the meantime, the brain has already completed the evaluation of the first sound. So there is no longer any possibility of the echo becoming mixed up with the original sound and causing confusion.
Sound travels through the air at a specific speed, just like water ripples. And our auditory system is perfectly created to benefit from this feature of sounds.
The distance between our ears is around 20 cm.
20 cm
Therefore, a sound reaching one side of the head reaches the other ear with a delay of three five-thousands of a second. Some cells in our brain immediately perceive this small difference and accurately detect the direction of the sound. But if the distance between the sound waves is shorter than the distance between our ears, then this method will not work.
But despite that, we can still hear this type of sound waves and locate the direction they come from. But how?
The sound center achieves this by creating a ‘shadow of the sound’. Let us examine this with an example: When light is projected onto one side of our heads, the shadow of our heads forms on the other side. In the same way, when a sound arrives from the side, there will be a ‘sound shadow’ with a lower sound intensity. Although the sound reaches both ears at almost the same time, very sensitive cells use the difference in the sounds’ intensities to detect the direction the sound is coming from.  The hearing center does all these things by analyzing the electrical impulses it receives.
But how do the sound waves in the air turn into electrical impulses?
Here we see other miraculous qualities of this amazing work of engineering.

the EAR CANAL

Our outer ear is like a gate opening onto the outside. It could also serve as a way in for foreign bodies such as germs and dust. But the secretory glands and hairs inside this canal prevent such germs, dust or other similar foreign bodies from entering our body.
These glands secrete not only sweat but also liquids containing fat and sugar. These liquids make the hairs sticky, so they stick to the germs and dust right at the beginning of the canal and stop them from going any further. The liquid secreted in the outer canal has anti-bacterial properties and also houses the body’s immune system cells.
Secretion
Another point of interest is the fact that the liquid is acidic. This acidity in the outer canal usually kills most bacteria.
The path from the auricle to the eardrum is not a straight tunnel, it is more like a winding road going down to the eardrum. This specific structure serves as a protection from external effects. For example, if a child pokes a pencil in his ear it probably won’t reach his eardrum and will just cause minor damage to the outer canal. If the ear is subjected to compressed water, it will still not suffer any damaged since the water will not reach the eardrum directly. If it wasn’t for this special structure in the ear canal, our eardrums could be torn very easily.
Another very important quality of the ear canal is the fact that it can renew itself. The accumulation of waste products on the skin helps prevent abrasion. Here we see another miracle of creation. The skin on the ear canal renews itself by migrating from the center towards the outside. For example, skin lying 2 cm inside the entrance will in time travel outwards and move a distance of 1.5 cm.

After a while, it will move 1 cm and eventually it will completely renew itself. The self-cleaning resulting from this migration is unique to the ear canal in our bodies.
At the end of the day, our ear canals are like fortresses defending our ears from external effects.

THE OUTER EAR

In the early 20th century, many evolutionists regarded the auricle as an organ that lost its original function. This organ, according to evolutionists, would become smaller and smaller within the evolutionary process and eventually disappear.

Many evolutionists, based on this thesis, didn’t include the auricle in their imaginary drawings of the supposed human beings of the future. But today’s scientific findings show that evolutionists were wrong once again.
The auricle acts like a megaphone and directs sound waves towards the inner part of the ear.
Each part of the auricle, each curve within it, has a very unique creation and purpose. In other words, our ear selects those sounds that should have a higher intensity. For example, the sound of speech is amplified for us, while others are kept low, and this shows that hearing and speaking are specially created for us by Almighty Allah in a harmonized manner.
The part of the ear from the auricle to the eardrum is called the ‘ear canal’.
The ear canal
This quality of ‘selectively amplifying sound’ of our ears, which starts at the auricle, continues in the ear canal, as well. The ear canal also intensifies sound and carries it inside. Research suggests that the pinna and the ear canal intensify the pressure of the sound on the eardrum 10-fold.
The eardrum
Another important role in hearing of the outer ear is making the ambient air temperature equal to the temperature of the body. This is an important function in hearing. Because the ambient temperature has an effect on the speed of gas molecules. If it were twice as hot, we would also hear the movement of the gas molecules, themselves. But thanks to the superior qualities Allah has created in the outer ear, we never encounter such difficulties.

 THE EARDRUM

The eardrum that vibrates and helps us hear, almost has an intelligence of its own and is capable of taking decisions on its own. Covering barely half a square centimeter (cm2), the eardrum is like a cone with the sharp side pointing outward.
The eardrum
Sound signals strike the eardrum, causing vibrations. The eardrum is so sensitive that some sound waves can cause the drum to move one millionth of a centimeter. That is smaller than the diameter of a hydrogen atom. But even with that minute movement the eardrum ensures that the sound is sent on to the hearing center.
In the first stage, vibrations reach the external surface only.
The eardrum
The outer surface of the drum
The inner surface of the drum
If sound reached both surfaces, it would vibrate with the sounds coming from inside the body, and that would result in a jumble noise. But the drum only vibrates at certain frequencies.
If it were susceptible to every frequency arising outside the ear, it would vibrate all the time and be a source of huge irritation. Our eardrums make a distinction between the sound waves that cause vibrations. Although it can vibrate at just a whisper, it can also process sounds that are 40 times stronger than that.  This helps protect our ears from loud sounds which could damage the sensitive cells inside them. The eardrum would vibrate with every sound, regardless of the direction it came from. Otherwise, we would never be able to hear someone speaking in front of us, and could only hear sounds coming from the sides.
The drum also acts as a muffler. Even after a high level of vibration takes place with loud sounds, it can stop movement in just four thousandths of a second. This is an admirable skill indeed.
Normally, when other objects vibrate they continue to do so for a few seconds before coming to a halt. Our eardrums are different, however, and can stop very quickly, enabling us to catch every new sound without missing anything in between. If they did not stop that fast, we would miss new vibrations while still processing the previous ones, and instead of clear and crisp sounds, we would hear a jumble of noises and buzzes.
All this shows us one plain truth. The eardrum, which is only millimeters long, was created for a special purpose. The cells making up the eardrum have no intelligence of their own. They do not choose their functions. They follow Allah’s orders, just like everything else. The only reason our ears have these perfect qualities, is the infinite wisdom and knowledge of Allah.
It is Allah Who created the seven heavens and of the earth the same number, the Command descending down through all of them,so that you might know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah encompasses all things in His knowledge. (Surat at-Talaq, 12)

THE HAMMER, INCUS AND stapes

The eardrum enhances the vibrations it receives and transmits them to the middle ear, to three ossicles there that are connected to each other in a very special way; these are the hammer, incus and stapes.
The hammer
Incus
Stapes
These three ossicles are located between the eardrum and the inner ear, and are connected to each other.
The eardrum pushes and moves the ossicles. As the eardrum vibrates due to external sound signals, its vibration creates movements, thus setting up a chain reaction where the hammer pushes the incus and the incus then pushes the stapes.
Eardrum
Hammer
Incus
Stapes
These three ossicles in the middle ear move like the parts of a lever, transmitting the energy from the drum to the cochlea, another component of the auditory system.
Cochlea
Allah created the three bones very specifically, with their shapes, length and connections to each other, so that they can amplify sound by 30%.
But, how come the ear is not damaged by a sound wave that is amplified still further despite being already very loud? This doesn’t happen, because intelligent precautionary measures are taken in the ear. The ossicles that work like a lever can also step on the ‘brakes’. This is intended to protect the sensitive internal structure of the inner ear from loud sounds.
The middle ear has another ‘buffering’ quality that it uses to reduce very loud sounds. This is done by the means of the two smallest muscles in the body, which control the hammer, incus and stapes. One of the muscles is connected to the hammer and the other to the stapes. When a loud sound is made, the nerve impulse reaches the brain through hearing nerves and a reflex goes into action. These two muscles are effectively ‘woken up’ by means of the nerves.  As the muscles contract, the hammer and the stapes reverse the direction of the sound signal and thus ‘step on the brakes!’ The sound reaching the inner ear is thus reduced.
This reflex goes into action very quickly, in just a fifth of a second. These tiny muscles are not only fast, but also clever, because they contract only when needed! If they contracted regardless of the intensity of the sound, they would reduce the intensity of normal sounds as well and everyone on earth would suffer hearing difficulties.
Let’s say you are in a crowded place with lots of loud noise. Since our muscles go into action, all these background noises are suppressed and we can hear the person we are speaking to properly.
These muscles, the product of Allah’s unique creation, are there for a very special purpose; because they will contract only when there are loud sounds that might damage the inner ear. The fact that there are such elaborate calculations and that there have been tiny structures flawlessly carrying out their tasks for millions of years shows that the ear is not the product of blind coincidences as claimed by evolutionists, but rather the product of the magnificent creation of Allah.
He is Allah – the Creator, the Maker, the Giver of Form.            To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Him. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise. (Surat al-Hashr, 24)
The middle ear, with such an amazing structure, needs to maintain an important balance.
Eustachian tube
Air pressure
Internal pressure
The pressure on both sides of the eardrum must be equal, as a rise or fall in pressure could mean impaired hearing. However, this balance is maintained with a perfect ‘ventilation system’ between the middle ear and the outside world.
This canal is the Eustachian tube, stretching from the middle ear to the mouth. This tube goes into action when the pressure of the air and the pressure inside the middle ear are different, and soon restores equilibrium between the two.

DANCING FILAMENTS

The hearing signals reaching the relevant center in our brains originate from the inner ear.
Hearing center
Our inner ear works like a power station that turns mechanical impulses into electrical ones. The sound waves in the outside world reach the eardrum and then the middle ear and move the drum and ossicles there. This movement comes to an end with the movement of the liquid in the inner ear.
The part of the inner ear that is in charge of hearing is the ‘cochlea’. The cochlea is surrounded by a canal made of hard bone. This winding structure is 3-4 cm long and full of liquid. When the movement of the ossicles reaches the cochlea, this liquid moves.
The inner walls of the cochlea contain small fibers that are affected by the movement of this liquid. There are more than one million hairs on the 32,000 cells inside our ears. These hairs sway along with the movement of the liquid. When there is a strong vibration, the hairs can move 20,000 times a second. When the sound waves are weak, they move only very little.
The hairs are extremely sensitive to any movement. Indeed, one hair moving only as much as the diameter of a hydrogen atom, one 400 billionth of a millimeter, can be enough to trigger the electrical impulse. In other words, if we compare the hair to a building 500 meters tall, the equivalent of a 2 cm movement could trigger the impulse.
When the hairs detect a vibration, they push against each other just like dominoes. This movement opens the doors of the cells underneath the hairs, which allows ions to enter the cells.
Nucleus
When the hairs move the other way, the cell gates close. The hairy cluster of cells works like a power switch. The hairs open when they lean to one side and close when they lean to the other. The continuous movement in the hairs changes the chemical balance of the cells all the time, causing them to produce electrical impulses.
Electrical impulses
In other words, the hair cells inside the cochlea act like batteries. It is rather like having 16,000 batteries inside our inner ears. But these batteries have an advanced technology incomparably better than that of the batteries we use. They are much more sensitive, can process information much faster and never need to be recharged. On top of that, you could fit them all inside a single pea if you put them all together.
Scientists examined the hairs outside the ear and were astonished to see that they react to even the slightest sound. David Corey, who has been examining the inner ear at Rockefeller University for more than 20 years, explains how he feels about this feature of hair cells:
David Corey
The mechanics of the hair cell is is amazing. The movement of a hair bundle enables us to hear almost in a magical way. These cells are so magnificent, I could never get tired of looking at them. (Hudspeth, A. J., The ionic channels of a vertebrate hair cell. Hear Res 1986, 22: 21-27.)
While the cells in the inner cell produce these electrical impulses, they also manage to reflect the intensity and rhythm of the sound waves coming from the outside world. This is such a complex process that scientists are still unsure if the frequency distinction takes place in the inner ear or in the brain.
Inside the cochlea, there is an organ called the ‘corti’. This accommodates the miraculous batteries, in other words the hairs, and is made of many interactive different parts. It is isolated from other parts of the body as it is filled with liquid. It has no blood veins such as are found in other tissues of our bodies. If it did, we would hear the sound of blood circulating there as a constant background noise and that would soon become a never-ending torture.
For example, it would be impossible for you to watch this movie or even meet your simplest needs, such as sleep. Our lives would be very difficult indeed.

A CALL TO REASON

PRESENTER:
What we have learned so far shows that our hearing organs have a very complex and flawless structure.
In order for us to be able to hear, many different parts need to co-exist and work together in a flawless manner. If just one component, the ‘hammer’ for example, is removed then the ear cannot hear anything. The ear needs the eardrum, hammer, incus, stapes, cochlea and hair cells to all exist together. Such a system cannot develop ‘gradually,’ as evolutionists claim.  Because in the interim stages the ear will be of no use, at all.
The idea that such a complex organ as the ear evolved gradually through such a random and completely unconscious process as evolution, is both unscientific and illogical.
That explains why the evolutionist Crick makes the following suggestion to biologists:
Crick F.H.C.
The biologists must always keep in mind that what they see is not a design, but the product of evolution.” (What Mad Pursuit: A Personal View of Scientific Discovery," [1988], Penguin Books: London, 1990, reprint, s.138)
This remark is vital in that it shows the prejudice and unscientific approach of evolutionists. Although the author of that suggestion later said he no longer believed in evolution, his words are an important clue to the evolutionist state of mind.
First of all, although Crick is a famous evolutionist, he knows how biologists will feel when they see complex structures in living things, as this feeling is based on a common sense in human beings, regardless of whether or not they are scientists or biologists: ‘If there is a work of art, then there has to be an artist’. The beauty and the magnificence of the work only make us appreciate it more.
The biologists that Crick warned can be compared to ordinary people looking at a beautiful painting after grasping its stunning artistry. It doesn’t matter if a person is a scientist or not, no normal human being who looks at a work of art and feels the extraordinary magnificence in it can say ‘there is nothing extraordinary in this, it is just coincidence’. This attitude requires an unnatural and pre-conditioned attitude and a prejudiced state of mind.
However, the systems in living things are so unique that many scientists feel obliged to admit that there is a superior order in these, of which the auditory system is one.
We are still far from building a device that can replace the ear. Hearing aids are used to compensate for a range of problems affecting the ear drum and the middle ear. But not even the most advanced aid can even come close to replacing the eardrum and middle ear.
We possess a pair of organs that we don’t need to install every day, and that clean, regulate and power themselves. And we didn’t need to do anything to possess them, and we were not asked to pay anything for them.
The structure in the ear is just one example of the glorious creation in our bodies. And the only thing we have to do is give thanks to Allah. Allah explains that He shows favor to people as follows:
Allah shows favor to mankind but most of them are not thankful. (Surat an-Naml, 73)

THIS MOVIE IS BASED ON THE WORKS OF HARUN YAHYA (ADNAN OKTAR)
